I received a message that said "the number of installations permitted with this activation key has been reached."

This message indicates that you have reached the maximum number of activations permitted with this key. You can purchase an additional license, or uninstall from another machine and then try again. To free up your activation key, uninstall it from one of the other machines where it is currently installed, and select the option to deactivate the license. Then follow the instructions and activate it on the new machine.
